Grammy Report (Almost)
A Couple Of Old Friends Watch TV On A Cold February Sunday Night
Lady Jane Rushmore and Ray D'Ariano

LJ: Ok, so it's a few minutes till the Grammys and we are getting ready by viewing a 1989 Stones concert from Atlantic City.

RD: The Steel Wheels Tour.

LJ: Right, and we're sipping on some Grey Goose; well I have a Cosmo, and you&

RD: I'm on my second Grey Goose on the rocks. Mick's wearing a fedora and Keith is all in black. They are doing 'Midnight Rambler.' Have you heard about the Boston Strangler?

LJ: I did hear about him. This is just magic, just wonderful; we're really not being fair to the Grammy's are we?

RD: Why not?

LJ: (laughs) Nothing they can do tonight can match this. They're just not capable of it.

RD: The Police are getting back together.

LJ: (laughs) Maybe we should turn this off and watch 60 Minutes. Katie is on 60 Minutes now.

RD: She didn't do what they hoped she would on the news. I guess they want to get their monies worth out of her deal.

LJ: If she bombed on the news why would they want to put her on 60 Minutes?

RD: Lot of people watch, maybe if they see her on there they'll like her and watch her on the news. What do I know?

LJ: (laughs) You like her?

RD: Not really.

LJ: (laughs) Why not?

RD: She reminds me of a third grade teacher. You know, the kind who makes you come into school to tell you your kid isn't living up to their potential, all the while with that cute little condescending smile on her face.

LJ: (laughs) This is how you think?

RD: (laughs) I don't hate her. I'm just like millions of others who don't watch her. Look at Keith, well all of them really, they look like they're having such a good time.

LJ: They are! They are the people's band!

RD: I saw this tour at Shea Stadium. I was in the 11th row or something ridiculous like that. It was, without a doubt, the best live show I ever saw in my life. Uh oh, now they're doing my favorite.

LJ: "You Can't Always Get What You Want."

RD: I love it. Look at these guys.

LJ: They make you glad to be alive.

RD: Well said, well said.

LJ: It's true.

RD: My favorite flavor, cherry red.

LJ: Mr. Jimmy.

RD: Brilliant.

LJ: You get what you need. So the Grammys&you went to a few, right?

RD: Yeah, a few. One time the company I worked for, MCA, had a party after the show at The Supreme Macaroni Company. The Oak Ridge Boys were there and they wanted to sing Happy Birthday to me, but I bolted.

LJ: (laughs) Why?

RD: Because I was insane.

LJ: (laughs) You are a fool.

RD: Thanks, I love you too.

LJ: This is a great Stones DVD. Where did you get it?

RD: I bought the pay per view and taped it and a friend of mine transferred it to DVD. It's a legal bootleg.

LJ: Clapton, "Little Red Rooster." I love it.

RD: So this was 17 years ago and this is us. This is the music we love. So you know what? It's simple, you wanna watch the rest of this or you wanna watch the Grammys?

LJ: We could turn this off and watch the rest of it after the Grammys.

RD: You wanna do that?

LJ: (laughs) No.

RD: I heard Rascal Flats are going to do a tribute to The Eagles.

LJ: (laughs) Let's just watch this.
